DARK GREEN AREAS ARE STATE PARKS & STATE GAME LANDS SURROUNDING THE LAKES

Nearby Recreation... Almost Unlimited
Stonecoal Lake, at 550 acres, offers excellent angling opportunities for the serious fisherman, for muskellunge, largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, channel catfish and bluegill, as well as rainbow, golden and brown trout.  The state record Muskie was pulled out of Stonecoal Lake in 2003 at 52.7 inches and 38.5 pounds! A shorter, but 49.75 lb Muskie was also pulled from this lake. Stonecoal Lake holds state records not only for Muskellunge, but also for Rainbow Trout (11.74 lbs), Golden Rainbow Trout (8.63 lbs) and Carp (41.5 lbs). See the Weekly Fishing Report.

Think of Stonecoal Lake as being intended as a quiet fishing lake. Boat motors are restricted to 10 horsepower, or less. Water skiing and jet-ski boating are not permitted on Stonecoal, but if those are your passion you CAN go to the nearby Stonewall Jackson Lake (see map above) to enjoy larger boats and watercraft.
Concrete public boat ramps are located at both ends of Stonecoal Lake, with the closest being just a 4-to-5 minute drive away. Private docks are not permitted on the lake. It IS permitted to tie a boat to the shore for up to 48 hours. The Meadows at Stonecoal Lake has a path to the lake between Lots 33 & 35.

Stonecoal Lake Wildlife Management Area directly adjoins The Meadows at Stonecoal Lake, offering 3000 acres of hunting and hiking opportunities. Hardwood forests cover 80 percent of the area with the remaining areas in wildlife clearings and brushy fields. Hunting opportunities abound for deer, turkey, squirrel, waterfowl and others.

Nearby Stonewall Jackson Lake and State Park
, at 2650 acres (82 miles of shoreline), has a 374-slip marina, boat ramps and rentals. This is a serious boating lake. Surrounded by over 18,000 acres of Stonewall Jackson Wildlife Management Area, with it's own five boat ramps to the lake. A sportsman's paradise, to be sure.

Jerry's Sporting Goods Georgetown Road at the Stonecoal Lake Access Area...   Located between Stonecoal and Stonewall Jackson Lakes Jerry's has the LARGEST selection of Hunting and Fishing Equipment in the area and is a true sportsman's paradise. Whether you enjoy muzzleloader, rifle, shotgun or bow hunting, no matter what kind of fishing you do, if you need it, they have it for you. Also the home of one of the largest indoor shooting ranges in the state, including an indoor dart video system, and a virtual reality target system.  "This place makes Cabela's look like a corner store!"

The Community... The Meadows at Stonecoal lake
This new lakeside community offers paved roads, community sewer system, public water and natural gas all in a rural setting but just a few miles from town, major highways and shopping. All homes will be constructed with log, wood and stone exteriors to maintain a natural appearance.  Additional roads and several new homes are under construction. New owners of homes here are a mix of full-time residents and weekenders from WV, PA, NJ and the DC Metro area. None of the homes and lots have actual "frontage" on the water, but many have "frontage" on the lake property... a narrow ring of shoreline owned by the Monongahela Power Company and leased/managed as parkland by the WV Dept of Natural Resources, to maintain a natural appearance and experience while enjoying the lake. No docks are permitted from private property and no long-term boat storage on the lake shore (up to 48 hours OK, but no more). Some of the lots and homes at The Meadows have good direct access to the lake and some not. A common access path exists between lots 33 and 35. Directly across the lake, near Jerry's Sporting Goods, there is a public boat ramp. Use of this lake is not for skiers, large power boats or jet-skis, but rather for quiet natural enjoyment of nature, at a spectacular WV water feature. This is as good as it comes! Your small boats will easily fit in your garage or even your basement.

Directions to The Meadows at Stonecoal Lake: Best thing is to use the Google Map to get directions to the properties. If you prefer to use your paper map, then head for Horner, WV, which is essentially, the Post Office, at an intersection on 4-lane Rt 33 & 119 with Georgetown Road. From there, take Georgetown Road 1/4 mile south to Spillway (15/4) Road.
